CAN PEACE III Partnership

ButterSideUp was recently selected by Carrickfergus, Antrim and Newtownabbey (CAN) Borough Councils to write, design and print a 16 page colour brochure.

The brochure was produced to celebrate and reflect on the valuable events, projects and initiatives which are helping build positive relations throughout the CAN communities. These haven’t just been at local level - many projects have reached out to groups across Northern Ireland and the Republic, further building peoples’ confidence to meet with and fully engage other communities.

CAN joins seven other PEACE III Partnerships across Northern Ireland and an additional six in the Republic’s border counties, in delivery of Priority 1.1 of the PEACE III Programme; ‘Building Positive Relations at the Local Level’. It launched its strategic action plan, with a budget of £1,954,868.07, in September 2009 and has planned for activities to the end of June 2011. It’s noteworthy that in this time, the CAN Partnership has funded more than 40 projects, all designed to build positive relations at a local level.

The Peace III Programme is worth €333 million and is aimed primarily at reinforcing progress towards a peaceful and stable society and promoting reconciliation. It focuses on helping Northern Ireland and the border region of Ireland to reconcile communities and contribute towards a shared society.

The Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) is a North/South implementation body sponsored by the Department of Finance and Personnel in Northern Ireland and The Department of Finance in Ireland. It is responsible for managing EU funds for PEACE III, designed to enhance cross-border co-operation, promote reconciliation and create a more peaceful and prosperous society.
